The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Chandigarh in collaboration with N. S. S. Unit, Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector-50, Chandigarh organised an awareness programme today. This event was held on the directions of the President of (SPCA), Chandigarh, Shri Mandeep Singh Brar, Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh.
The guests were welcomed by Dr. Manoj Kumar Bhambu (N. S. S. officer), who in the inaugural address highlighted the role of (SPCA). The Guest of honour on the occasion was Shri Mohan Singh Alhuwalia, Central Member, Animal Welfare Board of India. He emphasised the fact that each one of us must become a part of prevention of cruelty of animals. He also showed the way to help the animals without inflicting self-harm. It was a highly interactive session and he answered to the queries of the audience. The other members of (SPCA) present in the awareness programme were Dr. Baljeet Singh, Dr. Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Dr. Ashwani Kumar. Dr. Baljeet Singh in his power point presentation emphasised the animals’ rights given in the Prevention of Cruelty Act, 1960. He gave tips for preventing Rabies and other diseases that can be transferred from animals to human beings. Dr. Rajinder Singh Bajwa invited N. S. S. volunteers for a visit to SPCA centre in Sector -38, Chandigarh to get first-hand knowledge of treating injured and sick animals
The Principal of the College, Dr. (Prof.) Nisha Aggarwal stressed the need of making prevention of cruelty a mass movement. Dr. Renuka Mehra (N. S. S. officer) presented the vote of thanks and shared some of her experiences regarding prevention of cruelty.
Around 50 volunteers of N. S. S. were present during the talk and they interacted with the Guest Speaker. Also present on the occasion were Mr. Amarpreet Singh Sijher, (Dean), and Dr. V. Magesh, (Vice-Principal) of the college.
