The fourth day of the Special NSS Camp, FROM 03.01-09.01.2026 on theme, “Youth developing Skill India” at the Government College of Commerce and Business Administration (GCCBA), Sector-50, Chandigarh was dedicated to a vibrant Voters’ Awareness Drive, organized by the College Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) in association with AERO-9, South Division, Chandigarh. The programme aimed at empowering young voters with knowledge of electoral processes, rights, and responsibilities, thereby strengthening democratic participation.
The event commenced with a warm welcome to Shri Bahadur Singh, Election Supervisor SDM, South Division, Mr Kamlesh, CEO office and Booth officer level who delivered an insightful lecture on Election Awareness, emphasizing the rights and duties of voters. He also briefed students on the ongoing Summary Intensive Revision (SIR) across India, highlighting its role and importance in ensuring accurate and inclusive electoral rolls.
To provide hands-on exposure, a Voter Inquiry Canopy was set up at the Administration Block, where NSS volunteers, faculty members, and staff verified their voter card details online.
A major highlight of the day was the Electoral Awareness Conclave, staged in the Mini Auditorium with a dummy setup of the Lower House of Parliament. The conclave featured roles such as the Speaker, Secretary, and representatives from the ruling and opposition parties. Fifteen students actively participated in deliberations on topics including Electoral Awareness and Voter Participation in India, One Nation, One Election, and Summary Intensive Revision (SIR) and its Role. Shri Bahadur Singh, Mr Kamlesh, CEO and NSS Volunteers served as the judge for the conclave. Three students were facilitated for their outstanding performance by esteemed judges, along with Ms. Aanchal Malik, NSS Programme Officer (Girls), and Dr. Renuka Mehra, ELC Nodal Officer.
Further enriching the programme, Dr. Renuka Mehra sensitized volunteers on an overview of Electoral Literacy Club in colleges, Campus Ambassadors, 30 new initiatives of the Election Commission of India, the step-by-step voter registration process, and the use of ICT applications such as ECINET, Voter Helpline App, and Saksham App for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). She also explained procedures to search names in the SIR Electoral Roll (2002), book appointments with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), avail Voter Helpline Services by dialing 1950, and follow the official social media handles of ECI and CEO, Chandigarh.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, instilling a sense of unity, patriotism, and commitment towards a strong and participative democracy.
