“Two Days of Energy and Excellence: 16th Annual Athletic Meet Concludes Successfully”
The Government College of Commerce and Business Administration (GCCBA), Sector-50, Chandigarh, organized its 16th Annual Athletic Meet on the 20th and 21st of February, 2026, with great enthusiasm and overwhelming participation from both students and faculty. The two-day sporting extravaganza commenced with a grand opening ceremony inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Nisha Aggarwal. The ceremony was marked by the traditional unfurling of the college flag and the release of tricolour balloons, creating a joyous and patriotic atmosphere. In her inaugural address, Prof. Aggarwal stressed the vital role played by sports in fostering discipline, leadership, teamwork, and the holistic development of students, noting that athletic rigor is essential for building a well-rounded character.
During the proceedings, the principal of the college, presented the Annual Sports Report for the session 2025–26. The report showcased the students’ remarkable achievements and their dedication to excellence, particularly highlighting their success despite the college not having a dedicated Physical Education department. The athletic meet featured a wide array of track events, including the 100m, 80m, and 60m races, as well as the high-energy 60m and 4×100m relay races. Complementing the track events were field competitions such as the Long Jump, Discus Throw, and Shot Put. A major highlight of the event was the competitive class-wise March Past, which added a sense of grandeur, precision, and discipline to the celebration.
The meet also featured several inclusive fun events, including the Lemon and Spoon race, an 80m race for the staff, Musical Chairs for guests and faculty, and a 50m Kids race for children of the staff. One of the most anticipated segments was the Tug of War between students and staff, which served as a testament to the strong bond and sporting spirit shared within the college community. The event reached its competitive peak with the announcement of the major titles. The Best March Past title was awarded to NSS Wing, while the prestigious titles of Best Athlete and Best Athlete year were conferred upon Mr Nihal, BCOM 1st year and Ms Ishita, BBA 3 respectively. Both winners were honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, a track suit, and a trophy for their excellence in sports.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. Mahender Singh, Principal-cum-Joint Director Sports, who distributed medals, trophies, and certificates to the winners. In his closing address, Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of Yoga and regular exercise in daily life as a means to combat modern-day stress and maintain physical well-being. The mega event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by the Vice-Principal, Prof. Punam Agarwal, followed by the National Anthem and the ceremonial lowering of the flag. The 16th Annual Athletic Meet turned out to be a memorable milestone in the college’s academic year, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship and unity. The refreshments comprising of different products were sponsored by Verka, Punjab Milkfed for students and staff.
