Day 1: 11-09-2026:

Government College of Commerce & Business Administration, Sector 50, Chandigarh, today inaugurated a two-day workshop on “Universal Human Values: A Journey towards Professional Ethics,” sponsored by the Directorate of Curriculum Development and Continuing Education (DCDC), Panjab University, Chandigarh. Around 110 participants, including nearly 33 students and about 70 academicians from across the region, attended the inaugural day.

Prof. (Dr.) Bhola Ram Gurjar, Director, NITTTR Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest. The inaugural session included tree plantation, floral welcome and lighting of the Deep Shikha. Dr. Sangam Kapoor, Principal, GCCBA-50, welcomed the gathering, followed by addresses by Ms. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, Prof. Punam Agarwal, Dean, GCCBA-50, and the Presidential Address by Prof. Gurjar. Dr. Amarpreet Singh Sijher, Vice Principal, was also along with faculty members. The session concluded with felicitations and a group photograph.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Bhola Ram Gurjar said, “Professional competence finds true meaning only when it is anchored in human values; workshops like this help young minds build character alongside capability.” Ms. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, remarked, “Institutions of higher learning must nurture ethics and empathy as much as knowledge, and this workshop is a valuable step in that direction.” Dr. Sangam Kapoor, Principal, GCCBA-50, stated, “It is our constant endeavour to expose students to value-based learning so that they grow into responsible professionals and citizens.” Prof. Punam Agarwal, Dean, GCCBA-50, added, “True education bestows humility (‘Vidya Dadati Vinayam’), which serves as the foundational pillar for all professional ethics and personal conduct.”

In the technical sessions, Dr. P. K. Singla spoke on the “Concept and Significance of Ethics and Values”; Dr. Shivani Sharma addressed “Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah: Understanding Indian Value System”; and Dr. Garima Joshi discussed “Family Values and Harmony in Life.” The day ended with an interactive discussion over high tea.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Priti Sharda, General Secretary of the workshop.

Day 2 12-09-2026

Government College of Commerce and Business Administration (GCCBA), Sector 50, Chandigarh, successfully concluded the two-day workshop on “Universal Human Values: A Journey Towards Professional Ethics,” sponsored by the Dean College Development Council (DCDC), Panjab University, Chandigarh. The valedictory ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest and dignitaries, followed by their floral and formal welcome. Prof. Yajvender Pal Verma, Registrar (Examinations), Panjab University, Chandigarh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Sangam Kapoor, Principal, GCCBA-50, along with Prof. Punam Agarwal, Dean, GCCBA-50, Dr. Amarpreet S. Sijher, Vice-Principal, and all other staff members were also present. Addressing the participants, the Chief Guest emphasised the importance of universal human values and professional ethics in building responsible professionals and socially conscious citizens.

The second day began with the presentation of the Day 1 report at 9:30 AM, providing an overview of the key discussions and learning outcomes of the first day. The academic sessions continued with Technical Session IV: “Ethical Value Education of Teachers: Character Building of Students,” delivered by Dr. Sudhir Baweja. The session highlighted the crucial role of teachers in nurturing responsible, ethical, and value-oriented students. It emphasised that educators serve as role models and play an important role in developing integrity, empathy, discipline, and social responsibility among young learners.

After the tea break, Technical Session V: “Role of Media Literacy and Ethics” was conducted by Dr. Archana R. Singh. The session addressed the growing significance of media literacy in the digital age and encouraged participants to critically evaluate information, identify misinformation, and practise responsible digital communication. The ethical dimensions of media usage and the importance of informed decision-making were also discussed.

Certificates were distributed to the participants for their active participation in the workshop. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Registrar Dr. V. Magesh and General Secretary Dr. Priti Sharda, followed by the National Anthem and lunch.
