The Seven-Day Special NSS Camp on the theme “Addiction and TB-Free Youth” was inaugurated with great
enthusiasm and discipline on 29 September 2026 at the Government College of Commerce and Business
Administration (GCCBA), Sector 50, Chandigarh. The camp commenced on a vibrant and energetic note,
reflecting the spirit of service, learning, awareness, and skill development among the NSS volunteers.
The first day began with a Yoga session, in morning and Self- defence in evening which all 100 NSS volunteers
participated with remarkable unity, coordination, and discipline. The synchronized movements and collective
participation reflected the values of teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, and commitment that NSS seeks to
inculcate among young people.
The formal inauguration of the camp was conducted by Dr. Nemi Chand, State Liaison Officer, NSS Cell,
Chandigarh. He was formally welcomed by Principal Dr. Sangam Kapoor, along with Dean Prof. (Dr.) Punam
Agarwal, Programme Officers Dr. Yogesh Kumar and Dr. Aanchal Malik, and NSS Advisor Dr. Renuka Mehra.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolising a positive and
purposeful beginning to the camp.
Addressing the volunteers, Dr. Nemi Chand motivated them to perform every task assigned to them with
dedication and responsibility throughout the camp. He urged the youth to stay away from drugs and other forms
of addiction and emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy and responsible lifestyle. He also highlighted
the alarming prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) in India, with particular reference to Chandigarh. He called upon
the NSS volunteers to take an active role in creating awareness among the residents of Chandigarh about TB
prevention and encourage people to remain vigilant about the disease.
The NSS badge ceremony marked another significant moment of the inaugural day, formally signifying the
commencement of the camp and instilling a renewed sense of pride, responsibility, duty, and belonging among
the volunteers.
In the post-lunch session, an enriching Traffic Awareness Session was conducted by ASI Jagroop Singh, Head
Constable Rajiv and Constable Pardeep Sambar Singh, Chandigarh Traffic Police, along with his team. The
team engaged the volunteers through an interactive quiz, with helmets awarded as prizes to the winners. The
volunteers were also shown impactful videos depicting the consequences of rash and negligent driving,
including serious accidents and loss of life. The session sensitized students about the dangers of speeding,
performing stunts with vehicles, and violating traffic regulations.
The first day of the Seven-Day Special NSS Camp concluded on an inspiring and meaningful note, with the
volunteers feeling motivated, informed, and eager to actively participate in the forthcoming activities of the
camp.
