The Government College of Commerce and Business Administration in Chandigarh has experienced remarkable growth and progress since its inception. On 15th September 2006, His Excellency, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, General (Retd.) S. F. Rodrigues, granted approval for the establishment of the college. Shortly thereafter, in January 2007, the college sought and received affiliation from Panjab University for its B.Com-I and B.B.A-I courses for the 2007-2008 academic session. The college officially commenced its academic activities on 15th July 2007, with the induction of the first batch of students in B.Com-I and B.B.A-I.
In the years that followed, the college expanded its academic offerings and continued to build its reputation. In February 2008, Panjab University granted affiliation for B.Com-II and B.B.A-II courses, followed by the granting of affiliation for B.Com-III and B.B.A-III in April 2009, ensuring the steady progress of its undergraduate programmes. The institution celebrated a significant milestone on 28th March 2011 with its first convocation, where 176 graduates were awarded degrees, including 140 in B.Com and 36 in B.B.A. This event marked the successful completion of the first cohort of students.
In 2014, the college further strengthened its academic credentials by launching the M.Com programme, which commenced with an inaugural batch of 47 students in July. This expansion into postgraduate education was a major step forward in its mission to offer comprehensive commerce and business administration courses. Later that year, on 25th April, Panjab University conducted an inspection for the formal granting of affiliation for the M.Com course, paving the way for its continued academic development.
On 13th October 2015, the college achieved another significant milestone when it moved to its own building in Sector 50, Chandigarh, providing a modern, dedicated space for academic activities. The new campus facilitated an enhanced learning environment, and classes officially commenced on 29th October 2015. This transition marked a new chapter in the college’s history, solidifying its presence as a leading institution for commerce and business administration in the region.
As the years progressed, the college continued to expand its infrastructure and academic offerings. Over time, it has become a beacon of higher education, attracting students from various regions for its renowned B.Com, B.B.A, and M.Com programmes. The college remains committed to academic excellence, fostering an environment conducive to learning and the holistic development of its students. With its rich history and forward-looking approach, the Government College of Commerce and Business Administration is poised to make even greater contributions to the field of education in the coming years.
